Extraordinary show "On the way to Christmas"

National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin"

Conductor: Anna Ungureanu

On December 16 and 17, 2021, from 19:00, the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" and the Cantus Mundi National Program invite the public to the Extraordinary Show "On the way to Christmas", which will take place at the Bucharest National Opera. The show will have as special guests two of the most talented Romanian actors, who will complete this project with a remarkable series of literary elements.

For more than half a century, the sound of the Nativity celebration has been similar for Romanians to that of the Madrigal, and its Christmas concerts represent one of the longest-lasting and consistent cultural traditions in Romania. The famous ensemble, directed by Anna Ungureanu, is preparing an unprecedented show, through an artistic concept created for the first time, which will bring together the unique sonority of the Madrigal Choir, theatrical art, an impressive scenography and an exceptional combination of madrigal voices with those of over 100 children from the National Cantus Mundi Program.

"This year's Christmas show is built around an iconic metaphor, present in the collective psyche for over 2000 years - Christmas as a miracle of a new beginning, of rediscovered hope and faith, of trust in the future. Our new project entitled "On the way to Christmas" is such a parable of human resilience in the face of the trials of fate, where the Madrigal and guest actors take us to the deep symbols of Christmas through music, poetry, literature, scenography, stage movement and light-design - an unprecedented concept in Romania" - stated Emil Pantelimon, the manager of the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal – Marin Constantin"

The script of this show starts from a universal story. It is the story of each of us, of each family that could be separated, independently of its will, when it finds itself in the path of violent collective events, which can uproot and test the values that unite us. It is a history in sound and light of the estranged, who keep the hope of recovery through the luminous symbol of Christmas. Christmas becomes that magical time, the essential "home" where the family finds itself.

Anna Ungureanu, the main conductor of National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" prepared for this show an emblematic repertoire selection, intended to create an organic connection between tragic and hopeful moments, between classic and modern, in the tradition of the much-loved Romanian and international carols. The selection of dramatic texts was made by Madalin Guruianu (Comic Opera for Children) and will take the audience through a dynamic emotional sequence, starting from the "Singing of Songs", to poems by Eugen Jebeleanu, Lucian Blaga and Costache Ioanid and texts signed by Khaled Hosseini, Saint Teresa of Avila and Paulo Coehlo .

Tickets for the show are available on Bilete.ro.
