The story of the work has as its starting point the political and social situation in Europe of the XNUMXth century. The possible marriage of the young Carlo, the son of King Philip II, with Princess Elizabeth of Valois, the daughter of King Henri II, aims to bring peace between France and Spain, countries at war at the time. Despite the expectations, the two fall in love, but the king of Spain opposes the desire of the two, marrying the young princess himself. History, politics, religion and love intertwine ingeniously in a subject that also contains a large part of fiction, historical accuracy becoming relative for the sake of the story.
