Composer Dan Dediu took on the difficult responsibility of transforming Ion Luca Caragiale's play, one of the most beloved creations in Romanian theatre, into opera music. First of all, "A lost letter" is part of the comedy genre, so Dan Dediu often resorted to comic musical effects, which at the same time support the libretto. Thus, in the opera we find musical quotes from different areas, sometimes even from Romanian folklore, meant to place the action in space and time and bring smiles to the audience.
